Road safety officer issues warning over election posters

Mayo County Council's road safety officer has issued an appeal to those contesting the upcoming election when erecting election posters. Noel Gibbons said this week: "With high winds forecast over the next few days we have urged candidates not to hang banners and posters from road bridges and pedestrian bridges, as they could become loose, be interfered with by third parties, and could fall onto fast-moving traffic. Driver distraction has a negative impact on road safety and so only essential signage should appear.

The Breadski Brothers packaging wins IDI Design Award

Castlebar bakery, The Breadski Brothers, have won an IDI Design Award for their packaging, which was designed by Sarah Maguire from True Story. Judges commented: “From the use of illustration, typefaces, materials and format, the Breadski Brothers’ packaging sets a new level in its category on supermarket shelves. From a technical point of view, the hierarchy of information, colour coding to ease navigation of the range and layout of information was superb. Beyond this, the brand is a delight to interact with in its personality and tone of voice.”

THE STRUCTURE of Gerald Dawe’s memoir The Stoic Man, recently published by the Lagan Press, follows much the same general outline of his Selected Poems, published in 2012, and could easily be subtitled A Tale of Three Cities, beginning in the troubled city of Belfast, continuing on to the cultural melting pot that was Galway during the 1970s and 1980s, before moving on the comfortable avenues of Dún Laoghaire and the ivory towers of Trinity College.
